Mapped
and marked trails will take you through the surrounding grasslands and
woodlands. Cross-country ski trails wind through varying terrain
but you are welcome to break your own trail to a point that interests you.
Snowshoes are available for our guests' use to explore our great out-of-doors.
You may prefer hearing the crunch of the snow under your boot.
Packed trails are ideal for strolling on a sunny and crispy clear winter
day.
We
are located far away from the city lights so that all you see is a pitch
black sky peppered with brilliant stars. Pick out the constellations,
or perhaps you will be treated to a fantastic display of Aurora Borealis
- the Northern Lights. Our yard is the perfect spot for sky watching!
On your ski trip you may encounter the deer browsing their way through the swampy lands, pawing in the sedge grass that has green shoots at ground level. Don't be too surprised if a Sharptail Grouse bursts out from it¹s sub-snow cocoon a few feet from trailside. Greater Pileated Woodpeckers spend the winter near our farm and a Northern Hawk-Owl has been around now and then to help himself to the mice that may scurry across the snow.
Our
provincial bird, the Great Grey Owl, may be silently observing you from
his perch up above as you make your way down the trail.
Back
at the B&B, grab a cup of coffee and check the reference books on the
flora and fauna. Take a quiet moment to identify the numerous species
that you observed in their natural habitat.
